The Enchantments 2009
In 2009, we were lucky enough to score a rare and coveted permit to hike the Enchantments, an aptly-named cirque high up in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness area of Washington's Cascade Mountains.
Those were the days of...what's the opposite of ultralight? My Osprey Isis pack had a CHAIR built in! I wore boots...heavy, clunky things that made the bottoms of my feet burn. We were stalked by mountain goats and their kids, ravaged by mosquitoes, bedeviled by blisters.
It was spectacular and I'd do it again in a hot minute!
