Welcome!
I am an artist who hikes. A hiker who arts. A traveller who revels in the journey without undue devotion to the destination. I hike to be somewhere, not to get somewhere. Thanks for joining me on this journey.
Expect reflections on long distance hiking, art-making on trail and off, hiking culture, nature and my undying love for backrests.
2025 was the year I was going to befriend the desert (after it shattered me on the CDT in 2023 and incensed me on the PCT in 2024). I completed 350 miles before noro took me out (at least I wasn’t attacked by a rabid animal like some hikers). But oh, how lovely the Sonoran desert is. And how friendly the AZT hiking community is. And on, how I want to return, start from the beginning, wake again to the sound of the curved-bill thrashers and bathe again in the endless string of neon sunsets. I love the desert, now! I knew that I would!
Also, FWIW, here’s what I’ll do differently:
I will not have a deadline. I was trying to finish by a certain date for a trip to Santa Fe. Next time, no timeline. Even I forget that I hike to be somewhere, no to cruch miles just to finish. Why must I always be learning this?
If I’m hiking at the same pace as someone I don’t want to mingle with, I will slow down, take a day, let them proceed. Speeding up is NOT THE ANSWER!
I will find a way to carry a stove. I’m over cold soaking; I hope never to have to eat cold ramen again. EVER!
