Welcome to my blog.
Expect reflections on long distance hiking, hiking culture, nature, creativity and my undying love for backrests.
2021 was more of a road trip year than a hiking year, but I did squeeze in another trek on the Benton MacKaye Trail.
U-Turn joined me for the first half. We traipsed through mobs of Lady Slippers, hobnobbed with Cicada Brood X and chased a bear away with an umbrella and cookware. (The bear came back and gnawed on my Ursack for a while and that looks exactly like what you think it looks like. Like fritos and snickers and knorr pasta sides all went through the vita-mix with a cup of bear spit and nothing about that is salvageable or appetizing when you finally recover what’s left of your food bag).
U-Turn sprained an ankle, so I continued alone, having ditched the Ursack and returned to hanging my food at night.
Silent Bob and I spent three months on the road, traveling first to New Hampshire, then out to Bend, Idaho, Yellowstone, Truckee, Utah and Manhattan, Kansas for emergency veterinary surgery. Good times!
