BMT Day 5: My Hike. My Way.

Day 5

July 26, 2020

Fall Branch Falls TH to Indian Rock Shelter, Mile 52.4

No, I did not partake of the four mile road walk first thing this morning. And I relished every second of my first foray into yellow blazing (yellow as in the color of the stripes in the road as you crush miles from the passenger seat of a car).

Not sorry. My hike. My way.

Skipping four miles meant spending the night at the only shelter on the BMT. It’s sort of in a neighborhood of “cabins” on large lots. It reminds me of camping in the backyard when I was a kid.

I had meant to avoid it because I didn’t want to be around any crowds because pandemic. I needn’t have worried. I saw one person on the trail all day and he was on a bike. The last person to sign the shelter log signed four days ago.

I am alone.

Totally alone in someone else’s back yard.
