Curiosity is a willingness to try new things, experiment, see what works, what gets put in the rotation and what gets tossed from the repertoire. I’ve been loving the journey of learning--and practicing--new techniques. I love playing with new tools, and learning enough about it to make it mine.
Sometimes it turns out to not be my thing. Today I’m dubious about brush pens. There have been some disasters. But I’m trying to stay curious before tossing the Faber-Castell in the back of the drawer with the colored pencils and goauche paints. Because I’ve seen in that brush pen glimmers of promise in a sketch or two.
What I'm really curious about
The key, for me, is to stay curious about what wants to come out, what want to be expressed through me and to stay curious about how best to achieve that expression.
I’m trying to avoid the temptation of getting stuck in the familiarity of what I know and do well.
And of giving up too soon on something new when it doesn’t immediately produce the spectacular results I hope for.
My goal is to risk being curious about all of it, but mostly about what wants to come through me and how.
