Hey, Y’all.

Welcome to my blog.

Expect reflections on long distance hiking, hiking culture, nature, creativity and my undying love for backrests.

AT LASH 2024, Day 2: The Trail Provides

Painted Trillium

Day 1, Wednesday, 5.1.2024

Start: Mile 510.5, Old Orchard Shelter

End: Mile 520.9, Moss-Covered Stealth Site

Miles Hiked: 10.4

Total Miles: 18.5

This morning I realized I hadn’t thought through my charging cable situation before I left. Every device (and I have several) has a different kind of plug—USB A, USB C, lightning, Micro USB and whatever that thing is that connects my watch to the power source.

Soooooo, I didn’t have the right cable to connect my phone to my power bank.

The realization induced a moment of panic before I got my shit together and realized the world had not just ended.

I borrowed a cable from Shepherd to top up my phone this morning and resigned myself to limiting my picture taking and podcast listening and even FarOut checking.

Worth using a little juice for.

Another low miles day meant lots of lollygagging and time killing. I broke out my sketchbook once I got set up and tried to get into a book on my Kindle—Chain-Gang All-Stars by Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenyah. Recommended by a friend. Not my cup of tea.

Found a lovely mossy stealth site and a Hooded Warbler stopped by to offer a concert.

Better pitch tonight. Less fussing. Flat ground helps a lot, apparently

The trail provides!

In the morning, trail magic happened. A guy came in late (trail name: Buck Naked) and when we were chatting in the morning, I told him about my cord situation. He said, “Hold on!” and dug around in his pack for a second. He produced an extra iPhone cord and gave it to me. Cord crisis averted!
