Hey, Y’all.

Welcome to my blog.

Expect reflections on long distance hiking, hiking culture, nature, creativity and my undying love for backrests.

BMT/AT Figure 8 Day 34: A Milestone worth Celebrating

BMT/AT Figure 8 Day 34: A Milestone worth Celebrating

Hiked out by headlamp and got a sunrise through the trees this morning.

Day 34, Monday, October 5, 2020

Stealth Site at Ekaneetlee Gap to Fontana Dam

Mile 374.7

Miles Hiked: 9.2

Today I finished all 2,190 miles of the Appalachian Trail.

It’s been a long time (and seven pairs of trail runners) coming.

In 2017, I hiked 1,800 miles.

In 2018, another 300.

In 2019, I hiked the Long Trail, then summited Katahdin (15 miles)

Finally, 2020, the last 72 miles through the Smokies.

WOOT!

WOOOOOO HOOOOOO!

I’m celebrating with a shower at the Fontana Hilton and a burger in Robbinsville. Then I’m marching out again tomorrow because I’m not done with this year’s obscure hiking project yet.

166 miles yet to go.

Shuckstack fire tower…looks dodgy.

Not as dodgy as the tower on Mt. Sterling

Worth risking life and limb.

I love these burls every bit as much as I love fungi.

Okay…let’s go to town for a burger!
