Siler Bald Shelter, Mile 2079.9 to Winding Stair Gap

Mile 429.7

Miles Hiked: 4.2

The promised rain started at 11:00 pm. Not a deluge. Just a steady, soaking rain. Unrelenting water falling from the sky and seeping into my tent.

I was up a couple of times in the night to bail out my sinking ship of a tent with a pack towel and my pee rag.

I flew out at first light, stomping through all the puddles, umbrella deployed all the way down to the gap, fingers crossed that Ralph would be there before me.

And he was!

With dry clothes, coffee, bagels and stories about the boss bunny who reigns over the backyard these days.

We drove home.

I drained the water heater with my luxurious, hot shower.

Then I got in bed and wallowed in clean sheets and Netflix.
