Hey, Y’all.

Welcome to my blog.

Expect reflections on long distance hiking, hiking culture, nature, creativity and my undying love for backrests.

Morning Trail Smoothie

Tastes better than it looks!

I'll be back on the trail a week from today (WOOT!) and I've decided to go stoveless for the summer.

It was a tough decision to make because...coffee!

I love my morning brew.

And I love having a lighter pack, too.  (Going stoveless shaves a pound off the weight!  Huge deal when you're hiking 400 miles.)

But I'm not ready to face the withdrawal symptom of quitting coffee.

So I have a new breakfast strategy that fills me up and keeps me going without the usual sugar crash normally associated with thru-hiker breakfast.  It's filling because it's full of fat and protein.

It's quick, tasty and gives me the caffeine jolt I love.

It's my homemade breakfast smoothie and a spoonful of nut butter.

Here's the recipe for the smoothie:

Along with that, i eat a scoop of Barney's Bare Crunchy Almond Butter and that will keep me going so much longer than a pop-tart or a Luna bar.

It's all about replacing the sugar with REAL FOOD.

Let me know what you think.

Hey, this post has a lot of links to Amazon because I'm an affiliate.  That means if you click through my link and make a purchase, I get a tiny commission.  Maybe enough to buy some almond butter.  But it helps fuel me and this website so we can keep on putting one foot in front of the other.  For that I'm over the moon grateful.  Thank you!
