Hey, Y’all.

Welcome!

I am an artist who hikes. A hiker who arts. A traveller who revels in the journey without undue devotion to the destination. I hike to be somewhere, not to get somewhere. Thanks for joining me on this journey.

Expect reflections on long distance hiking, art-making on trail and off, hiking culture, nature and my undying love for backrests.

Learning to Stand

It’s hard to work standing up.  And potentially dangerous.

I recognize stand-up sketching is another area I fumble around in and into which I'd like to delve more deeply and improve my skill.  That way I can grab quick sketches while I'm on the go, either hiking or on my way to a meeting.  I'm habitually early, so I'd love to be able to stop for a moment and capture something of the day.

On the way to grab coffee with a friend the other day, I stood on the corner and started practicing this new skill.  I quickly sketched the coffee shop.  Perhaps I’ll return and add color later.

I was playing with my new Lamy Joy fountain pen with the 1.1mm calligraphy nib.   I like the variety of line it creates.

But things got dangerous when I walked off the curb and right into the path of an oncoming car.  Luckily there was a stop sign, so no one got hurt.

Never knew sketching could be so risky.
